[가사해석][영어공부] What about us - P!NK

언젠가 이 노래를 꼭 올려야지했었는데 이제야 올리네요!

P!nk의 What about us 입니다.

이 노래가 정치적인 색을 띠고 있다는 이유로, 말이 참 많았죠.ㅎㅎ

제가 P!nk를 좋아하는 결정적인 이유는,

바로 P!nk의 이 수상소감때문입니다.

 

 

2017 마이클 잭슨 비디오 뱅가드상을 수상한 P!NK는 수상소감에서 딸 Willow 와의 대화를 언급했습니다.

 

“I know I don’t have a lot of time, but if I may tell you a quick story.

제게 주어진 시간이 많지 않지만, 짧은 이야기 하나를 하려고 합니다.

 

 Recently, I was driving my daughter to school and she said to me, out of the blue,

최근 학교에 딸을 데려다주는 길에 제 딸이 제게 우울한 얼굴로 이야기했습니다.

 

 ‘Mama?’ I said, ‘Yes, baby?’

"엄마" "응, 아가야"

 

She said, ‘I’m the ugliest girl I know.’

"나는 세상에서 제일 못생긴 사람인 것 같아."

 

And I said, ‘Huh?’

"뭐?"

 

And she was like, ‘Yeah, I look like a boy with long hair.’

"봐, 나 머리 긴 소년같잖아"

 

And my brain went to, ‘Oh my god, you’re six. Why? Where is this coming from? Who said this? Can I kick a 6-year-old’s ass, like what?’

그리고 내 머릿속은 복잡했죠, '말도 안돼, 아가 너 겨우 6살이잖아. 왜 그렇게 생각했지? 누가 그렇게 얘기한거야? 얘한테 그렇게 말한 애를 한 대 치고 싶은걸'

 

But I didn’t say anything.

하지만 전 아무말도 하지 않았습니다.

 

Instead I went home and I made a Powerpoint presentation for her.

대신 집에 와서 제 아이를 위한 프레젠테이션을 준비했죠!

 

And in that presentation were androgynous rockstars and artists that live their truth, are probably made fun of every day of their life, and carry on, wave their flag and inspire the rest of us.

바로 진실된 삶을 산 성별을 구분짓지 않는 차림의 예술가와 록스타들에 대해서요!

그들은 매일을 최선을 다해 즐겼고, 우리들에게 영감을 주었죠.

 

And these are artists like Michael Jackson and David Bowie and Freddie Mercury and Annie Lennox and Prince and Janis Joplin and George Michael, Elton John, so many artists —

예를 들면 Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Annie Lennox, Prince, Janis Joplin, George Michael, Elton John 같은 많은 예술가들이요.

 

her eyes glazed over.

제 아이는 물론 지루해했죠.

 

 But then I said,

하지만 저는 말했어요.

 

‘You know, I really want to know why you feel this way about yourself.’

"아가야 엄마는 진심으로 네가 왜  네 자신에 대해 그런 생각을 했는지 알고 싶어" 

 

And she said,

그리고 딸은 말했죠.

 

‘Well I look like a boy,’

"나 남자같잖아."

 

and I said, ‘Well what do you think I look like?’

그래서 제가 "네가 보기에 엄마는 어떤데?" 라고 물었어요.

 

And she said, ‘Well you’re beautiful.’

그러자 딸은 "글쎄요, 엄마는 아름답죠."

 

And I was like, ‘Well, thanks. But when people make fun of me, that’s what they use. They say I look like a boy or I’m too masculine or I have too many opinions, my body is too strong.’

"글쎄, 고맙구나. 하지만 사람들이 날 비웃을 때 그들은 나에게 소년같다, 남자같다, 또는 자기주장이 너무 강하다라며 평가하곤 해."

 

And I said to her, ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’

"그런데 너 내가 머리 기르는 거 본 적 있니?"

 

She said, ‘No, mama.’

"아니요, 엄마"

 

I said, ‘Do you see me changing my body?’

"너 내가 몸매관리하는 거 본 적 있니?"

 

 ‘No, mama.’

"아니요, 엄마"

 

‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?’

"네가 세상에 의견을 굽히는 거 본 적 있니?"

 

 ‘No, mama.’

"아니요, 엄마"

 

‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’

"내 콘서트 전세계 매진인거 봤지?"

 

‘Yes, Mama.’

"네, 엄마"

And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.’

그리고 그 사이로 들리는 사람들의 시위 목소리는,

우리는 혐오에 반대한다! 우린는 인종차별에 반대한다! 입니다.

트럼프 정부에 대한 비판 시위인 것으로 추정됩니다.

가사 역시 트럼프 정부의 자국민우선정책에 반대하는 내용입니다.
